Emerald Thinker Gallery Presents
Watercolor Studies — 2020 to 2025
The landscape is still there.
What has changed is
what we've put in it.
— Easton Cain
The Collection
Emerald Thinker Gallery announces the availability of unarchived watercolor studies by Easton Cain, a Marin County–based painter working in the tradition of American Regionalism.
Two thematic series hold two kinds of American outdoor life in direct conversation: the park, which is cultivated and chosen — and the wind farm, which is functional and imposed. Neither is privileged. Both are looked at with the same patient regard that has always been the Regionalist project.

The Medium
Sustained attention, layered in light.
Cain's works are a showing of the creative process, painted in watercolor on 300lb Fabriano coldpress paper, building luminosity through layered transparent washes rather than opaque correction.
Each finished work represents four to eight weeks of sustained attention. The scale — 18 × 24 or 24 × 18 inches — is intimate enough to live with and substantial enough to command a room.
The medium's transparency gives the paintings a quality of documentary honesty that sits in deliberate tension with their meticulous composition.
About the Artist
Marin County–based painter whose work reclaims the visual vocabulary of American Regionalism for a generation confronting ecological transition. Working exclusively in watercolor on 300lb Fabriano coldpress paper, he brings the same patient authority to wind turbines and storm-charged skies as earlier Regionalists brought to grain elevators and open plains.
Represented exclusively by Emerald Thinker Gallery
